Yahoo inks deal with U.K. social networking site
Add to Sep. 12, 2007 Yahoo has inked a multi-year deal with a major social networking property in the U.K. and in Ireland for display and video advertising. Bebo is a popular social networking site that targets more than one demographic. Overall, Yahoo-Europe will help search advertisers and Internet marketers reach a British audience of over 11 million Web users. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed at this time. The transaction is said to involve certain revenue guarantees, an approach reportedly made by Google in a deal that got them MySpace advertising, and possibly part of Microsoft’s recent Facebook transaction. "Selecting a market leader the size of Yahoo was the important part of the decision," said Joanna Shields, president of Bebo International. "On a property like Bebo where our users are our core constituency, we had to be sure that the ad partner that we selected could deliver a targeted ad that was going to complement the experience of the social network," added Shields. She also said that Bebo would be looking at expanding this agreement across their global base of 38 million users, an idea that would certainly make Yahoo happy. Recently, Yahoo has been concentrating many of its efforts in expanding the percentage of off-network advertising on many of its Internet portals. Add to
