Yahoo web sites voted Best of the WebAdd to Oct. 1, 2007 Last week, Business Week released its annual “Best of the Web” user survey. Among the most liked sites are some of Yahoo's properties such as Finance, Games, Health, Music and News. On Yahoo's Yodel Anecdotal blog, it quotes itself as having "established a center of excellence by having Yahoos in residence in a major media capital, benefiting its partners." Yahoo is planning some changes that will also benefit its users and customers. It is streamlining the structure of one portion of its entertainment division with a new vision of offering a more integrated entertainment experience. This means Yahoo will be creating more synergies between its music, games, movies, TV, and OMG properties, making them more personal and engaging for entertainment buffs. Additionally, rather than staffing entertainment business units around distinct properties, the company is freeing up resources to feed new areas of focus. Yahoo will be investing in the development of next generation media platforms, applications and services. It is hoped that this will create new opportunities for third-party publishers and media companies, while at the same time help harness the power of social media and user-generated content. For example, consider the Yahoo Music Video application on Facebook, which is supposed to bring big entertainment brands to life on the Internet. Yahoo's new initiatives are aimed at making it easier for big networks and studios to put their hottest video content in front of users, both online and offline. Yahoo thinks this innovative approach isn't just good for business, but it will also be better for its users. The company is hoping to continue to keep its social media properties in the limelight as much as it can. An entertainment team at Yahoo also means increased accountability, faster decision-making, better focus and the ability to staff its engineering, product and design muscle in order to successfully meet its goals. This will enable Yahoo to redeploy its talent against big bets in other parts of the company. Yahoo said it will continue to look for areas to sharpen its overall focus in the social media segment.
