Yahoo allows advertisers to block whole domains

Oct. 17, 2007

Many Internet advertisers already realize that Yahoo search ads appear on a whole network of sites, not just on Yahoo.com. However, some advertisers may not wish to have their ads appear on certain specific sites. Reasons could be that they might be competitors.

Other reasons could be that they sell products or offer similar services and they simply don't want their brand to be associated with.

Now a new Yahoo tool for advertisers allows them to specify up to 250 Web sites or sections of sites in Yahoo's partner distribution network on which Internet marketers don’t want their ads to appear.

These can be:

  • An entire domain (i.e., website.com)
  • One subdomain (i.e., blog.site.com)
  • Up to 2 folders in a specific domain (i.e., site.com/folder)
  • Yahoo's new site blocking feature applies to Internet properties that are using either Yahoo's Sponsored Search or Content Match products.

However, and for obvious reasons, Yahoo says it's important that advertisers take note that the Yahoo.com domain still remains unblockable.

Yahoo says that Internet advertisers wishing to block a domain need to follow these steps:

    1) Log into Yahoo account
    2) Click the Admin tab
    3) Select the Accounts section
    4) Next to Blocked Domains, either click Submit Domains or Edit

Advertisers need to complete the required steps to block any other domains they wish to prevent their ads from appearing.
