Feb. 19, 2008

Among the approximately one-thousand people let go at Yahoo was Jessica Bowman, Yahoo's senior SEO manager.

Bowman also acted as the unofficial "SEO Evangelist" at Yahoo, but nevertheless she was laid off last week.

Many are saying that life at Yahoo wasn’t very pleasant last week and that their in-house SEO program is now so efficient that apparently that's the main reason why Bowman was laid off.

Some say that Bowman, given her strong relationship with recruiters and being somewhat of an authority in leading an in-house SEO team after her positions with Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Business.com and then Yahoo will not be on the market for long.

Bowman was quoted as saying "I knew that my job would be done when an in-house evangelist wasn’t needed anymore. On the way out I got hugs from engineers... It was a job well done."

In August of 2006, professional SEO Serge Thibodeau was also offered the same job but turned it down. It was a few weeks later that Bowman accepted it. Thibodeau is the founder and acting CEO of Rank for Sales, a well-respected SEO company that has been in business since 1997.

Thibodeau is also the editor of the RFS Newsletter, a popular SEO resource that is currently read by over 34,000 subscribers.

Some think it's also possible that Yahoo may have contacted the CEO's of other prominent SEO firms as well.
